The APsystems APStorage ELS 11.4K PCS (Power Conversion System) is an 11,400VA AC-coupled battery inverter engineered for residential whole-home backup and energy management. It serves as the intelligent core of the APStorage system — managing energy flow between your solar array, battery bank, utility grid, and home loads in real time.
Unlike DC-coupled systems, the ELS 11.4K is AC-coupled, meaning it integrates with any existing grid-tied solar installation — not just APsystems microinverters. It's natively split-phase (120/240VAC) with no external transformer required, and its IP65-rated enclosure supports both indoor and outdoor installation.

Unlike an all-in-one hybrid inverter (which handles both solar DC input and battery), the ELS 11.4K PCS focuses exclusively on managing battery charge and discharge on the AC side. This means it can be added to any existing grid-tied solar system — regardless of brand — without replacing your current solar inverter.
What batteries is the ELS 11.4K compatible with?
The ELS 11.4K is designed to pair with APsystems' own APbattery modules (10.24kWh each, LFP chemistry). Up to 16 units can be connected in parallel, giving you up to approximately 163kWh of total storage capacity. The PCS uses self-adaptive BMS communication to manage charging and discharging automatically.
Can this system provide backup power during a grid outage?
Yes — the ELS 11.4K includes a dedicated backup output rated at 11,400VA continuous and 17,100VA peak for 10 seconds. It will automatically switch to backup mode during a grid outage, keeping your critical loads running. With solar recharging during the day, backup can extend indefinitely on sunny days.
Does the ELS 11.4K work with a generator?
Yes. The ELS 11.4K has a dedicated generator / off-grid AC input rated at 11,400VA continuous. This allows a backup generator to charge the battery bank and power loads during extended outages — particularly useful in areas with frequent multi-day grid interruptions.
Can it be installed outdoors?
Yes. The ELS 11.4K PCS is housed in an IP65-rated enclosure, which is dust-tight and protected against water jets — suitable for outdoor wall mounting, garages, or utility rooms. Always follow local code requirements for battery system installation clearances and ventilation.
What operating modes are available?
The ELS 11.4K supports four configurable modes: Backup (prioritizes keeping the battery full for outage protection), Self-Consumption (uses solar to power the home and stores excess), Time-of-Use / Peak-Valley (charges at low off-peak rates, discharges during expensive peak hours), and Peak Shaving (limits demand charges for homes with demand-based utility billing).
