What is a microinverter and how does it differ from a string inverter?
A microinverter converts DC to AC at each individual solar panel, rather than centrally at a string inverter. This means one shaded or underperforming panel does not drag down your entire array — each panel operates independently at its maximum output. The DS3-L also provides panel-level monitoring so you can see exactly how each panel is performing.
How many panels does the DS3-L connect to?
The APsystems DS3-L is a 2-to-1 microinverter, meaning each unit connects to two solar panels. This reduces the number of microinverters and trunk cable connections needed compared to 1-to-1 designs.
Does the DS3-L require a separate monitoring gateway?
Yes. The APsystems DS3-L communicates via encrypted ZigBee wireless to the APsystems ECU-R gateway, which aggregates system data and connects to the APsystems EMA monitoring platform. The ECU-R is sold separately.
Is the DS3-L compatible with high-wattage panels?
Yes. The DS3-L is rated for panels up to 384W per input channel. It is compatible with most standard residential and commercial solar panels. Always verify compatibility with your specific panel's Voc and Isc ratings.
